Moving Home and Feeling Cheated… | Stoves Range Cooker

I wanted to share with you something that happened about a week after we completed on the sale of our first house.

Silly me used my beloved 7 burner Stoves range cooker (1100DFA) as a bargaining tool in the price negotiation so when they offered £167,000, I counter offered £171,500 including the range, which they accepted.

A week after the sale of our house I was browsing gumtree for any local bargains and I noticed a photo of our Stoves range and kitchen! ‘OH MY GOD’ I shouted to Ben downstairs  – I was gobsmacked – they were selling our range on gumtree for £175 ono (although yes, I was technically now THEIR range).

I’ll back track a little so you understand why I felt cheated…

We originally bought the range off ebay for £500 and it was in nearly new condition – I loved it.

As one of the oven doors had been broken for the majority of the time we had it (it was broken whilst Ben was fitting the kitchen worktop), we replaced the door before we sold the house which cost us £150 (and I never got to use that oven!).

We now have a cheaper ‘Leisure’ range cooker in our current house which I don’t like as the ovens are smaller and it doesn’t feel as well built.

To make matters worse…I made an attempt to buy the range back (using another name as it would be a little weird if they knew it was us trying to buy it!), however we missed out as it was sold and collected the day after they put it up for sale – not surprising given the price…

Oh and two weeks later they sold the cooker hood for £35 which cost us £175 less than 12 months previous. BITTER, ME? NO WAY!

It’s now a month after we completed on the sale of our house and I am slowly getting over the loss of my beloved range, although I’m definitely going to buy either a Stoves or a Britannia range as a replacement.
