Enviromate: New Marketplace for Buying, Selling, Donating Leftover Building Materials

Today I wanted to share with you the new website Enviromate. It is a new style marketplace where you can buy, sell or donate leftover building materials. This would have been so useful when we were renovating our properties, hence I wanted to share this exciting new site with you.

Envromate aims to help build a future where everyone can share, upcycle and reuse surplus, reducing the impact the industry has on our environment and building toward a more resourceful, circular economy.

Below is the press release from Enviromate.

Founded at the beginning of 2015 by two disruptive innovators and UK Eco-Entrepreneurs Reiss Salustro-Pilson and Nigel Van Wassenhoven who’s belief that business should be a force of good whilst collectively protecting our planet by shaping our ecological impact through building businesses that work and collaborate for the good of both humanity and nature.

We believe in the power of connected communities and see waste as simply a resource we are wasting. We believe that with ethical choices and sustainable, natural capital conscious businesses that support them, we can make this world a better place and shift mainstream demand towards conscious consumption through building a technology platform to serve the whole community. Co-Founder & CEO, Reiss Salustro-Pilson;

“We’re in the business of embracing change. We have developed an innovative, closed loop marketplace to help build the world of tomorrow. A business that reinvents and disrupts industry and is focussed on developing natural capital and the protection of natural resources through a circular prospective.”

We sort to tackle a vast economic market opportunity to develop a disruptive, online marketplace or as we like to call it, a marketplace that matters, within an industry that is the largest contributor to waste globally. Whilst within the UK alone equates to 32% of all landfill waste using over 420million tonnes of material per year generating 120m tonnes of waste over half reusable. It is estimated that 13% of that material ends up within the waste stream without ever being used, with a value of over £1.5 Billion.

Coupled with the notion in which an emerging generation of consumer thinks about consumption is also changing. Increasingly, consumers are seeing the benefit of secondary markets as a driver of sustainability. This is fuelling the growth of a new generation of services and marketplaces shaping society and the transition to a more prosperous but less primary energy-intensive model.

Enviromate has developed into a leading closed loop marketplace that both connects consumers to the resources they require or wish to sell through a classified marketplace along with donations of larger amounts of surplus materials to community projects via larger developers. Harnessing the rise of both digital technology and sharing economy principles to help propel the growth of the circular economy, where reusable materials are kept out of the waste stream, value is not destroyed; instead it is preserved – and also created by sharing under-utilised material resources. This model is not only less environmentally damaging, but economically more efficient. More importantly reducing the need for extraction of new, finite natural resources within the construction and DIY sectors.

A Complete self funded platform with growth of 10,000+ people across the UK, Winners at this years P.E.A Sustainability Awards, Pioneer of The Year and most recently The Great British Entrepreneur Awards, Eco Entrepreneur of the Year Natwest Boost Award. With over 4,000 tonnes of material reused on the marketplace and kept out of the waste stream – enough to fill over four olympic swimming pools and a GMV close to £600,000. This coupled with over twenty charities and community projects across the country, benefiting from national developers donating larger surplus through the platform seeing the benefit of waste reduction and increased corporate social responsibility Shows the Enviromate brands ethos of having a real tangible and disruptive impact is well underway in the UK and with international expansion plans opening exciting prospects delivering a tangible global impact. People, Environment, Achievement Award Judges;

“The best online portal for the sharing of unwanted building materials, helping to make the building sector more circular. A real boost for reuse in a sector with so much waste.”
