Rock Wool and Celotex Insulation

Rock Wool and Celotex Insulation

In the ceilings and stud wall we used 200mm rock wool insulation for both heat insulation and noise reduction. Each roll covered 5.5 sq meters and we used 11 rolls to cover all the ceilings in the house and also the stud wall in the back bedroom.

As rock wool insulation is made from fibreglass when you are pushing it up into the ceiling all the particles disperse into air so you need to ensure you wear a good breathing mask and possibly even an eye mask.

As we were installing underfloor heating we needed to lay insulation on all the ground floor and for this we used Celotex 100mm. We used Celotex instead of Kingspan as it was significantly cheaper and does not appear to be any lower quality.

Celotex was a lot ‘cleaner’ to install than the rockwool as there were no fibreglass particles floating in the air and it could easily be cut to size using a normal wood saw.

We had to cut grooves out of the insulation for the conduit running over the floor carrying electrical wires to the cellar. We had to do this otherwise the insulation would move and it needs to be stable and fit securely.
